Down the road of GAS lies a tangled web of endless wandering trying to get back to the simple time you lived when you had but one guitar, and liked it. The JC-16 on reflection is an anomaly, not quite an electric, not quite an acoustic, perhaps the word acoustic electric is an anomaly in an of itself. I played each through an AC-90 Roland using a SWR Workingpro 12 as a sub woofer. Unquestionably, both Martins sound better acoustically than the Taylor when not plugged in, but the nod goes to the inexpensive Taylor when amplified. In all fairness, today, I played the D-28 Martin with Matrix Infinity under saddle pickup, and the JC-16re-aura with Fishman Aura which has an over abundance of controls and options, then hooked up my little Taylor 314ce, and while I like my Martin Guitars, I can't help but conclude the expression system sounds far superior to anything I at present have in a Martin guitar. I thought at first I could live with the Fishman, but now I am leaning towards just not having electronics in the D-28 Marquis. I am by nature reluctant to discard things on general principal but I believe the Fishman Martrix Infinity under saddle pickup might fall under this guide line, making an entirely acceptable projectile towards the evil enemy trash can. I have considered this and while all things are possible, not everything is practical.
Nevertheless as you no doubt appreciate, these two were never designed to be compatible and total success cannot be guaranteed. Tell us the exact model of Fishman preamp you have and also the Martin to which it's fitted, and we'll try to anticipate and minimize potential problems. A parallel resistor would also help to reduce the high sensitivity of the input, bearing in mind that the K&K has a much higher output than any ust.
This can probably be overcome by inserting a resistor in parallel at the preamp terminal block, the value of which can be calculated if you tell us exactly which Fishman preamp is fitted to the guitar in question. However, there will certainly be a serious impedance mismatch issue which will have to be addressed: the K&K requires a 1M load but a Fishman Prefix Pro, for example, has a whopping input-Z of 20M(!). In any case, the influence of any such tailoring is likely to be small taken with other factors. Jim's concern about the frequency response of the preamp being tailored to suit the pickup may not be much of a problem: Fishman are not as noted for this practice as Baggs are and I haven't seen any specific reference to it in the Fishman literature I've read, although that doesn't necessarily mean that Fishman don't do it. One physical problem is likely to be with the greater bulk of the K&K's wiring harness, but no doubt there are ways round this as TC has said.
This is theoretically possible but not completely straightforward.
